Thirsty Work for a Nectar-Feeding Bat

Glossophaga soricina (Pallas’s long-tongued bat) is a nectar-feeding bat, and as such has a very high metabolism. These little bats are very delicate and need to be fed something sweet as soon as they’re caught. The video shows a Glossophga drinking sugar water. You can see the long tongue the bat usually uses for getting nectar from flowers.
